I did call them and the person couldn't tell me any more than what that web page says. He read the page to me and couldn't tell me any more other than it doesn't work

Ask him to investigate the recommendation for you, or, ask to talk to someone that DOES know.

Contact Richard at Hipotek, he can get anything from Hughes and he REALLY knows what he is talking about and is a stand up guy, I've never dealt with Hughes directly, too much incorrect info coming out of that place.

Richard can help with your cam choice.

I'm new on here, I'm also interested in eventually camming out my 5.9, nothing to ridiculous where i risk blowing my engine, I'm willing to say i know diddely on cams, what is a safe lobe range i can go without risking my engine and otherwise having to do too much as far as compression work or stroking or shaving the heads, I'm not ready for all that quite yet.

Make your own thread with your goals for the truck. power, uses, street strip off road? Towing? That kinda thing. You'll get a lot more help that way.

I'm looking at the whiplash cam from Hughes but It says that you shouldn't run it in a factory magnum bottom end because compression is too high. Why is that? I didn't think a cam had anything to do with that.

Specs on the cam are
Lift- int .544/exh .544
Duration- int 222/exh 228
Lobe seperation- 107
Intake centerline- 102

I know I'll need valve springs, I'm going to run 1.6 roller rockers, will I need different pushrods?
The camshaft will change the compression of any given motor . Cam timing to be exact. There is stactic and dynamic compression ratio's. Stactic(sweep volume@full stroke) is the ratio most are aware of. Dynamic comp is not. Dynamic comp ratio caculates the sweep volume of the cylinder when the intake valve closes or ABDC. The piston will have traveled a certin degree according to the cams ABDC specs on the intake valve. There are other factors like rod length that affect the dynamic but where chattin SBM. Now LA/magnum rods wont interchange pistons with out machining but there all the same length. DCR is very imported ratio when it comes to fuel used. The whiplash cam from Hughes may fall out side there acceptable DCR range with a stock bottom end and run on pump gas with out detenation or very least the ability to tune correctly. These types of cams are more suited for a show/trailered vehicles. All bark NO bite.
