I suppose the first question you need to answer is: "How much of a budget do you have for this project."?

I contemplated the same thing, I have a 3/4 ton with a 5 speed and was going to use my tranny, get a different bell housing, I'd have had to get the pedal assembly from a 70s 4 speed truck to make it work. Build Motor mounts, core support, custom oil pan, have to do some trimming on the fenders, re route some brake lines off the master cylinder, have a custom radiator made specific, have to make radiator and heater hoses, have to make a fan shroud, hood clearance was an issue also. And that's only the motor stuff, then you have to worry about the hvac, gauges, and everything else that won't have a place for the sensor that the magnum motor has. After all the price and time figuring I did it wasn't worth it even with me doing all of the fab work. It would be a great swap if somebody had the pocket book and time to do it. Because a factory 440 might only push 260 horse but when you can get the motor for a couple hundred bucks, you can put a intake, carb, cam, port the heads and put new rings in it and have a mean motor for 1000-1500 bucks.

I went with 4 barrel swapping my magnum 360, I have the MOPAR m1 intake, quickfuel hr600 carb and a msd ignition. And putting a cam in it soon. Not nearly as much of a headache and I feel like this motor has a noticable amount of power over the stock intake and what not as is just with the carb and intake. You can make good power with a 360 if you build it right

Built and tuned the right way these Magnums can put down some power. Hughes sells 360 to 408 stroker kits for around 2k and 360 to 426 for a lil bit more. It's easier, less time consuming and will cause less headaches then tryin to swap in a 440.

You haven't done it yet.

I'd really like to build a 408, I have a 5.2 right now. Once I get myself familiar with megasquirt on another project I might start building a 408 for my 1500.
