The ticking comming from my timing chain is getting louder by the month so a friend and I are going to change it. On Summit Racing there is one Competition Cams set for about $48. On Rock Auto there is 6 Cloyes kits ranging from $38 - $160. Any input on either brands or on wich Cloyes kit would be sutible for me? I'll prolly need the gasket kit too huh... The only future mods I see for this truck motor wise after this would be headers and some roller rockers So I probobly dont need the $160 kit correct?

I also have a hughes plenum kit on the shelf, so hey why not. Anything I need there or are all the bolts and nessisary hardwear for re-instal there and up to grade?

 

You just need a good double roller timing chain set. Comp Cams set should be fine. If you'd like extra insurance, pick up a timing chain tensioner, too. It takes up the chain slack as the chain stretches naturally from wear and will keep timing rock solid for years. for more info on the tensioner, try this:

I went with the S.A. Gear double roller .250 78103 set from advance auto parts. Went on nicely. I opted not to get the chain tensioner.

I litterally just finished my new timing chain and plenum repair today...

I got my Cloyes Double Roller from RockAuto for around $50 plus shipping, and there's a discount code thread in the GD section....

 

I've heard that the gaskets they supply are sub-standard, get a Fel Pro intake gasket set. The only bolts that must be replaced are the intake manifold bolts, the rest are reusable. Don't know what's in their kit, but if it doesn't include man. bolts, you'll have to get a set.

 

I went with the MOPAR Performance Double Roller Timing Chain Set. Got it from Summit for $65. I think it's probably the exact same item as the Cloyes Street True Roller Timing Sets 9-1103.

 

I use a chain tensioner and I've used the same intake bolts with 3 different manifolds over 6 years, never had an issue.

 

ive heard the double roller sets are louder. How loud are we talking? like hear it in the cab loud?

 

No. You can noticeably hear it right after you install as is its breaking in. But mine isnt loud anymore.

Its more of like a very little "wwhhurrrrrrr" if that makes any sense

I got a mopar chain from the dealership for 50 bucks.

You will laugh when you compare the stock chain to the double roller.
