Default Transmission swap 01 into 97

Hi how's it going? good, alright down to business.
I have a 97 1500 4x4 with a 360 the transmission, well is a dodge trans so its going out lol (300k mi i think it has out performed expectations). I also have an 01 1500 4x4 with 360. the 97 was meant to serve as parts for the 01 but that's not how the cookie crumbled so now i need to know if i can swap the trans out of the 01 into the 97 and if so what extra parts i would need for said swap, are there any pcm complications or other fun things i may need to be aware of.
i read threw a few dozen forum threads similar subject matter but couldn't find may people going in reverse years, hence yet another transmission thread. :/
thank you in advance for the knowledge.

From what I understand, the transmission will bolt up perfectly and everything will plug in, but there is a catch, the electronics on the inside are different. I am definitely no expert, so wait for someone else to confirm that. I think the electronics changed in 2000...

Green guy is correct. Need to change out the electronics, and a couple parts where the governor pressure sensor/solenoid mount. You can take the stuff from your old trans, and stick it in the new one, or, just buy new. (about 200 bucks for all of it) Will still need some parts where the solenoid/sensor mount from the old trans though.

don't suppose you have part numbers handy lol i'm not going to trust taking anything from the 97 and transferring it into the 01. 200 is cheaper than 3000

Get the borg warner units from ElectricalAdvantage on EBay. (governor solenoid and sensor. heavy duty solenoid, self cleaning too, MUCH better than stock.) For the tcc and o/d solenoids, just order them up from the parts store for the year of truck you are stuffing them into. I don't have numbers just off-hand.

so i would get a governor solenoid and sensor for the 01 year and the tcc and o/d solenoid for a 97 or everything for 97 even though the trans will be from an 01?

IT WILL NOT BOLT ON AND WORK!! Just forewarning you. I have done this with my 98, and it now has no overdrive until you drive it for about 30 min. The electronics aren't compatible. You cant swap the PCM either to make it work, Sean from Hemifever told me that. I was gonna put the PCM from the 01 into the 98, and just get a tune from him that would make my 318 run, but he said the gauges wont even work. I was told from a transmission shop that its the trans temp sensor that is making mine not work, and that you could just swap it, but im not gonna put anymore money into that trans, im just gonna wait until I can afford to rebuild the 98 trans, and just put it back in there. Now yours might be drivable with no O/D, but with the 4.56s in mine, 3000 rpms at about 55 is a bit much for me.

That's why you swap the electronics for the correct parts for the truck. Solves those issues.
