To PACT, or not to PACT...
So, I've looked for someone to post what i'm looking for but i cant seem to find anyone. So if this gas been posted before. My fault
But i've got a 46RE tranny and just now lost my first gear. My truck has been through 4 trannys so now its time to step it up. I've got 4.56 gears so thats not a problem. I was looking at PATC level 2 viper upgrades but i've seen some bad things about them. How are they? and if they are bad, Any ideas on wear to get a built tranny? Thanks!

Couple members here have them, and no complaints. (I am not one of them though.) I HAVE seen some folks have issues with them, but, the company backed their product 100%, and took care of them. I don't think you will be disappointed with them.
Have you removed the check valve from the cooler line yet?

And you are still smoking transmissions??? If you don't have an aux cooler yet, think I would invest in one.....
Something is truly strange there.... What do you do with your truck? Where have you been getting transmissions from?
Also, ever consider rebuilding it yourself???? Several members here have done so, with zero trans rebuilding experience.

well, I drive my truck kinda rough. The tranny's have been rebuilt by the same crappy company (They JBwelded the TV cable spring to the tranny...WTF) so i took advantage of their crappy warranty which cost them rebuilding it 4 times. we've tried to re-build the tranny ourselves and not much luck. When we put it in we had no gears at all..reverse worked but that was it. If you live in the Austin area DO NOT take your truck to Reliable transmissions.

I've been perfectly happy with my Mega Viper. PATC did right by me, and other than a day or two delay waiting on parts for the build the rest was perfect. On the 5th it'll have been installed for four years, but only 20,000 miles, so I can't speak to the longevity from personal experience but I expect the thing to last as long as the rest of the truck. It shifts today just as it did the day it was installed.
If I bought another 2nd gen Ram today I'd order another Mega Viper tomorrow.

It comes ready to install, in a nice, stout crate.
If they're old and tired you might also want to pick up the rubber grommets for the shift linkage so you can get them replaced while you're right there with your hands on the parts. It's also a perfect time to install a remote ATF filter, if you don't already have one, to get a check valve back into the circuit so you don't risk beating up the innards of the new torque converter by running it only partially full. Also to keep the internal filter from ever seeing the crap that the external will catch. Put it in the hot side so the ATF cooler doesn't see the crap, either.
