So when I'm accelerating there is no whine but as soon as I release the pedal it starts whining with a little vibration at speeds above 50. If I repress the gas it goes away instantly. The sound is definitely coming from the rear of the truck. Hoping someone has some ideas. Thanks for the help.

 

Check pinion bearings.

 

I'll will check them. How would I replace the bearings? Can't seem to find a video or is a shop needed?

 

Depends on which one is bad. Or both..... If its just the outer, not too bad of a job. If the inner is bad as well..... time for a shop, or, if you know a guy good with gears.... draft him.

 

Ok thanks for the input I know the rear ring and pinion were completely replaced in 09 by previous owner. So I'll hope it's just the outer. Thanks.

 

Ok so the pinion bearings checked out the read driveshaft ujoint closest to the t case was really bad. So I replaced that some fluid came out so I wanted to fill it up but the bolt won't come off any ideas on getting the bolt off. It is starting to strip.

 

Is that the fill plug for the t-case that is giving you problems? I think its just a 3/8ths square hole, isn't it?

 

It's a 10mm Allen key hexagon bit. But now it's a circle.

 

Yeah should be able to just jam an extension into it. 3/8ths

 

My 2000 goes to the shop tomorrow for a rear axle rebuild. I'm pretty sure the gears are good but the bearing (s) are noisy and whiney
