First: Welcome to DF!
Second: I will move this to the tech section for you.
Third: You can't set the timing. Turning the distributor changes fuel sync. (when the Injectors fire) That's it. Nothing to do with ignition timing. The distributor needs to be installed in a specific position for everything to work right. You can get the 95 Factory Service Manual from here, use the procedure detailed for installing the distributor after a rebuild, or some such.
What kind of problem are you having that prompted you to want to change timing?

Ouch. Real possibility it isn't going to be as simple as just replacing the chain and gears then...... you may have bent valves, or other damage as well....
Reset the distributor as best you can according to the procedure, and see how it runs.
Maybe you will get lucky.

Is it a v6 or v8?. Sometimes it is easier to remove to plug in cylinder #1. Bring the engine up to top dead center and see where you rotor under the cap is facing. Hopefully it is facing #1 Spark plug wire. Timing is usually set by the computer if the distributor is in the right place.

Keeping in mind, that #1 will be at Top Dead Center when cylinder 6 is in firing position as well. If you use that method, need to make sure that both valves on number one are closed. (meaning it is about to fire)
Thanks for all the tips I will show my mechanic your responses. As far as the bent valve he choked them yesterday they r ok he said

good deal, then just rotate the engine over till the #1 cylinder is compressed and your sitting at top dead center and then pull the cap off and make sure the rotors is point at the #1 cylinder, it should look as though its pointing at like 5 o' clock. if it is then go ahead and start tearing it down to your timing chain, and replace the chain and sprockets. the sprockets are have keyways anyway so you can put them on wrong. no even sure if you really need to even worry about being a tdc since nothing will change and but put on wrong with the keyways. but its better safe than sorry. when you do get to the chain the dots on the sprockets should be at 6 and 12 o' clocks. then just put it all back together and fire it up, it may take a sec to start, as i unplugged the battery when i did mine just to reset it and let it relearn with the new fresh chain.
