Dipstick measuring how to?
Am I the only one who wants all the dipstick readings to be exactly on the full mark?
Hopefully not, so my question is for the crankcase is it better to use all five quarts every oil change with filter and have the oil level about an inch past the full mark, or use less (4 1/2 quarts or so) to get the level at or below full mark?

When I had a stock oil pan on my motor, I typically used the full 5 quarts along with a new oil filter change. After the motor was started, run a few moments to fill the oil filter, then shutdown and left to sit a while for oil to fully drain back to the pan, the oil level would end up at the full mark on the dipstick.
Since there is supposed to be 1qt between the Full and Add marks on the dipstick, one would put 4qts in, run the engine for a minute, the put in the last qt.
Anything over the full mark is not good, as it is supposed to be damaging to the seals... on an old engine, I would think you have a greater chance of this actually occurring.
Theres no sludge in my engine and I have 220k.
When I cleaned the pan out when changing my oil pump there was very little sludge or anything in it. I think even on a poorly maintained engine that sludge accumulating in the plan would be miniscule in comparison to dipstick readings.

I pre fill the oil filter, install it, add 4 liters to the motor run it up, shut it off, let it sit of five min, check the level on the DS and top it off as needed. Going over is not good as posted.
