Default 2500 4x4 Problem

I'm currently having an issue with my 01 Ram 2500 4x4. It works fine if I'm plowing snow, but if I'm on a sheet of ice, it's hard to move. Only my back tires spin in the ice. What could be the problem? Please help.

Thanks guys

Are you saying the 4WD is not working? Is the 4WD indicator on?

When you are plowing snow are your front tires turning under power? We need a little bit more of an explanation of what is going on. Right now it sounds like your axle disconnect isn't working. The easiest way to fix that is to just buy the cable operated kit for it.

On ice, only one front tire will spin. I got stuck in mine with ONE tire dropped off a driveway, into foot deep snow, the other three tires would spin nice, but sure wouldn't move the truck. Cupful of kitty litter solved the traction problem.

I can plow with no problems, it only occurs when I'm on ice. I just noticed that only one of my back tires spin on ice.

Normal situation for an open re-end. One front, one rear. Get your build sheet, and see if you are supposed to have an LSD in the rear. (link in faq/diy section.)

This. If you don't have an LSD then the power ends up transferred to the wheel with the least amount of traction.
