Lets suppose I buy a new torque converter (for the 5.2). In that scenario, since the new TC would be balanced internally, I am good using my flexplate and will be better on the new transmission because I have the new TC, Is my thinking correct? If so, I can order the new catalytic converter today and have it about Tuesday.

Balance is done by the flex plate, torque converter should be neutral balance for either engine.

New converter really isn't a bad idea.... it is never going to get any easier than when you have the trans laying on the floor.

I have some telling me that the balance on the 5.2 transmission is done by the converter and the balance on the 5.9 is done with the flexplate. Then I have some telling me that it's doke by the flexplate on both engines. If it's done by the flexplate on both engines, then I would be fine using my original flexplate and converter, unless I wanted to use a new converter. I am getting extremely confused as to what balances what.

The 5.2 is internal balance, so, the flexplate is neutral balance. The 5.9 is external balance, so the harmonic dampener, and flexplate doe the balancing. On 5.9 before 96, (I think) the flexplate was the same as the 5.2 flexplate, and the balance weights were on the torque converter......

Havin' fun yet?

Tons. So with my 2001, do I need the flexplate from the 5.9 or the TC from the 5.9? I just wanna make sure it's right.
