Default Brakes on 96 stop but not too quickly

I just got done replacing the discs and pads on my truck. Of course when i fired the truck up the pedal went to the floor but got stronger when the pads made contact with the disc. The braking is much better then it was and it does not pull to the right when braking anymore. The issue I am having is I thought it would stop faster than it does. I drive an F250 4x4 crew cab at work and it stops on a dime. My truck not so much it's more of a rolling stop. Is there anything I can look at or check to make the truck stop better?

Maybe need to bleed the brakes. Did you lose fluid out of the reservoir when compressing the pistons and not replace it?

I checked fluid before I started and when I finished and it is full.

I was thinking about bleeding them too but have never done that before. Well I have never been the bleeder, I was the brake pumper.

Flushing the fluid sure won't hurt....

Also, you gotta keep in mind that the 3/4 ton trucks brakes are MUCH larger than those on your half-ton. Of course they are going to stop an unloaded truck faster.

There ARE some improvements you can make though. Upgrading to the larger light duty 3/4 ton calipers in front, and one-ton wheel cylinders will give you a noticeable improvement.

Brute stop pads by Raybestos DO make a difference. Don't bye cheapo pads!

Thanks for the input guys. I did by premium pads, that's one thing I won't cheap out on. I think I will start with some new fluid like HeyYou mentioned.

Make sure your drum brakes are adjusted properly. Had this problem on my Ram and had to adjust them through the holes on the back side. They are self adjusting but mine for some reason got stuck. Drive your truck in reverse at decent speed and slam on your brakes. See if they adjust and you notice a difference. If not might need to check and make sure everything is in order.
