So my 01 has recently been having transmission problems. While accelerating at any speed while the truck is cold, it feels as if the truck is surging. When the truck is warm during slow acceleration in traffic it will surge and seem to have a problem up-shifting. Transmission fluid is at a good level but is very dark. Truck will be going to the shop early next week, but I am just wondering what I may be facing when it comes to repairs and cost?

 

The shop will probably just want to rebuild it....... after all, that makes them the most money.

If your fluid doesn't look good, you could try doing a fluid/filter change, and see what you find in the pan...... that may tell the tale right there.

 

Check the adjustment bands. You may need to tighten them up. Plenty of good informative videos on YouTube that helped me and save a lot of money. Do your research before you let them do any work. I've seen plenty of people go through the loop of it all and it could've been done on a weekend

Thanks for the quick reply everyone! I will have to do some more research...money is tight this time of year so every dollar saved helps. Think I may have to park it for a month or so until I have some more time to work on it. The old girl needs a lot more work than I first thought. Would the adjustment bands cause it to shift funny and surge like it has been doing?

No problem. No harm in that I just had my truck on blocks for 3 months because of the snow we got in NY. My neighbors a jackass called the town on me... the other day I'm getting ready to finish and the guy gets in my face complaining about it all. Like why now?! I hate NY best of luck man
