Default Spare tire with oversized tires

Hey guys, i'm switching out my rubber for 285/75/16s, and curious about what to do with what you guys have done about your spares? I don't think this will fit underneath anymore. Do you just go without or leave it in the bed?

I'm never going to run without a spare for any longer than it takes to hit the nearest tire store to get one, so when I've had that problem in the past a spare tire carrier and cover found their way into the mix straight away.

I have that exact size spare tire under my truck. I found that when it was full of air, it would not fit in there very well. In addition, I'm running the late model factory aluminum 16"x 8" wheels, which includes my spare, so it also rubs up against the factory run exhaust tail pipe. I ended up letting some of the air out of the tire and it fit fine, but snug. I carry a small air compressor on the truck to get the tire back up to proper inflation, if I'm in a situation where I need the spare tire.

Just get a 265 under there. It will fit and it's close enough to the size you have. If you are planning on off-roading or using it hard, get a carrier. But a smaller size spare is no big deal at all. Every car made today has a tiny funny tire for just getting to a shop.

I've got a matching 285/75/16" spare tire on aftermarket 16x8" rims. It fits, but just barely. Definitely carry a spare. It only takes one time when you get a flat in the middle of nowhere to fully appreciate having one (it's happened to me). If you've got a spare you can just swap it out and keep on going in a matter of minutes vs. waiting possibly for hours to finally be back on the road.

I've got a 265/75/16 under mine... it's been there for 16yrs, and never dropped (probably wont drop now).
I carry a plug kit and a little compressor... used it twice in 16yrs.

If you're the off-roading type, carry a spare... if you live on-road, carry a plug kit and skip the spare.

Lots of newer cars dont even come with donuts. They just come with a small compressor or that run flat stuff.

Hell, lots of cars come with those run flat tires....

Rolling without a spare is inviting the world to teach you all about how poor decisions cause unpleasant consequences.

I have a limited slip rear end and would never run under sized tire, or even a new tire with a worn one on the rear.
