Default speed sensor conversion??

I have the rear end off of a 98 1500...hence a different speed sensor. I have the original wire harness for a 95 1500 which is a dual pin style connector...the 98 is a dual spade connector.

Original wire harness is standard black and red...the 98 is red with yellow and white with red or orange..

any way to get this to work with a splice??

Just get the sensor for the 95, or, steal it out of the old rear. Mounting is the same across the years, so, the older sensor will go right into the newer rear. No wiring modification required.

Ok...not good...installed new speed sensor with current wire harness...so no output to gauge. found out i have a 3/4 ton rear end and drive train from a 2500. All due to the speed sensor needed to try and get mine to work. Good thing it was only $20.

Now Im lost...I fried my last multi meter and dont have access to one to check for continuity in the line. Is there another way to check to see if im getting any signal to the gauge...im sure not..just asking. Also all other gauges work just fine.

Ok...a test light i can get a hold of...

now...since this is a new issue for me, and yes i have searched for answers related to speed sensors..to no avail.

Do i test the end of the wire harness connected to the speed sensor and than try to find the connection going to the back of the gauge..half stepping back to find the initial problem...seems the way to go.

The speed sensor i got was the standard input output style...which the 2500 called for which mated perfectly for the harness that is installed on the truck...hence me finding out i have a 2500 3/4 ton rear end, and also a tranny....gonna pull the id off of it tomorrow morning

Your speedo isn't working??? Should be a VSS in the tailshaft housing of the trans, or t-case (depending on two, or 4 wheel drive.) that runs the speedo.

What year is the drive train (98)? In 95 the (speedometer) speed sensor was in the rear of the transmission and the sensor in the rear was for abs. I think you are trying to get a 98+ drive train to work with the 95 wiring if i'm reading correctly. Not sure if the 95 wiring/pcm will work with a 98+ sensor. ???
