Default Stalling problem 96 1500

Hey guys, so my truck is acting up, it's a 96 ram 1500 5.9. It seems to be struggling to get gas, it only starts to freak out when I slow down for stop signs and things of that nature, even completely dying sometimes. The rpm gauge just bounces up and down and it struggles for any power. I've replaced the iac and gotten a full tune up including a new air filter but it continues to act up, any ideas what could cause this?

How many miles are on your truck? When was the catalytic converter last replaced?

It's got 160,000 on it. I have no idea if the cat has been replaced, it hasn't since I've owned it.

96's came with bad cats from the factory. (They had a recall) Pull out the front 02 and see if that makes any difference. The cat may be clogged. I'd check the fuel pressure while at it to rule that out.

Ok I will try that, is there any way to unclog the cat without replacing it? I don't wanna dump alot of money into this truck. Would a clogged cat make the truck feel starved for fuel? That's how it feels when I drive it.

yes! A clogged cat stops the engine from breathing.

Cut the pipe shortly behind the cat, hollow out the cat, then weld the pipe back up.

May be able to get a new cat from the dealer installed for free (recall).
