Default 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 operating temps




Ok so this where my temperature sits maybe a little more and its on a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 it has new thermostat and water pump and radiator ive done the burping of the system cause i have plenty of heat but some reason the gauge wont go back past the 2 part of the 210

What temp stat did you put in?

It was a 195 thermostat

i have the same year truck with all new cooling system and it runs at the same temp.

So have u had a mechanic tell u its normal or did u get any ideas on how to bring the gauge back down

I would say that looks OK for a stock t'stat (it's where mine use to live)... the need just shadowing the bottom left of the "2".
With a 180°F t'stat, the RH edge of the needle will barley make it to the "2".

It will sit there sometime or just right on the two when u drive down the high way

That's where mine has been since new. The truck has seen two water pumps, two radiators and two 190 stats replaced but it always shows what's in your picture. I have seen it go over 210 once, only did it once, after a little towing and I was idling on a real hot day -radiator was low on the 50 50mix, otherwise it would not have done that. My mileage is near yours as well at 150k.

If the PCM thinks the engine isn't warming up all the way, it will whine about it.
