Think I would skip the SS rockers, if they aren't full roller. (which it doesn't say one way or the other....) Get the Harland Sharp full rollers. Or, drill/tap the heads for rocker studs, and use Chevy style rockers.

I would also consider skipping the throttle body, and picking one up off ebay for about half the price......

I would skip the Edelbrock aluminum heads before I would skip the rockers. I like the EQ Iron heads for an everyday driver. For what the Edelbrock ones cost you can get some honed EQ heads that will out flow the Eddy heads. Just my opinion. If you look at the picture they are roller rockers. And HeyYou, the TB is their Big Gulp model so buying one off Ebay isn't going to give him a moded unit.

I wonder why nobody seems to talk about the v10 engines? I've seen entire running trucks with v10 for 500-1000 (damaged parts trucks but still). Looks like a nice torquey motor and I wonder with a fresh rebuild and some minor mods like cam, injectors, PCM you could get close to 400 hp for less than a 408 build.

That is very true. Bet the fuel economy wouldn't be that much different either. (although, using the words "fuel", and "economy", when referring to our trucks just seems 'wrong'....... a lot like "military intelligence"....)

Didn't read the whole thread, but I know they made a hi-perf kit for the 5.9L back in the day. Might be one or two floating around. Might want to check around.

I shopped for parts for a couple years before I built the 408 in my Dakota, bought a used Eagle forged 4" crank, eagle forged H Beams and Forged SRP pistons shipped to my door for 1150.00

Ported to the max Eddy heads for 1200.00, deals are out there, just gotta be in the right place right time, I'd never spend the coin for a "kit".

i went and got a junk yard 360, threw heads, cam, mopar m1, harland sharp 1.7 roller rockers, 50mm throttle body, and long tubes at it.

motor makes about 390hp, and 450ish torque.

heres my first start up.

Your built magnum motor is not pumping out 390hp/450tq. Wish you would have run on the dyno when it was finished. I think your probly closer to 300hp/350tq. Lets not make newer members think you can just bolt on heads and a cam and get 150hp bump.

I did way more than heads and cam.

Also, I kept in very close contact with merc225hp, and he's the one who gave me my HP numbers.

Also, once the truck was running and driving I was able to smoke hemis and keep up with the 6.2 fords.

Its not hard to make power with the right parts, especially with bigger cube motors.
