Nah. That would be far to easy.

I think there are a couple you need to check. Both in the PDC, and the junction block on the side of the dash.

 

Lol true enough. Update traced a few wires and they seem to be ok. Now engine doesn't crank at all and still no bus is displayed in the cluster

 

Battery dead?

 

No. It's low but still has 11.9 volts in it

 

Do you hear the relay trip when you turn the key to start?

 

My Truck has been getting the NOBUS readout on the odometer and also has been cutting out and stalling on the road. After some reading on some of the local threads here and there it seems like the connections going into the PCM are sometimes to blame.

First, try to make sure that all of the connectors are inserted fully into the PCM to try and resolve your issue that way.

Second, if first solution doesn't help, try to inspect the condition of the PCM connectors and also the plugs coming from the engine harness into the PCM. Use a can of CAIG Deoxit from Fry's Electronics, Micro Center, or whatever other local place has the stuff because it is supposed to be second to none. If nothing else is available otherwise, grab some generic Electrical Contact Cleaner to eliminate corrosion, deposits, and to improve conductivity between the PCM and the plugs going into it.

This may be a nice place to get an inexpensive replacement PCM if necessary, Car-Part.com, I use that site for damn near everything.

I found this website a few days ago, http://dodgepcmdirect.com/details_product.php?id=1239, and they guarantee their PCMs for life for an extra 100 dollar warranty fee. Grand total is 350 but the PCMs they provide are supposed to be fully inspected, serviced, recalibrated, and flashed with up to date software specific for your vehicle's VIN#.

If your PCM did in fact go bad on you then that is a good place to start in order to get a cheap or quality replacement quick style.

If the vehicle was drivable and then all of a sudden began to stall, cut out, and display NOBUS on the odometer then most likely your problem will be something small if there are no major wiring issues with the truck. I am no electrical guru but chances are good that your issues involve a simple quick fix. Keep us posted on your situation.

Here's a 12 zip tie solution to loose plugs & busted tabs of the PCM from my 1999 Ram I performed earlier today.

I used a can of the CAIG Deoxit to clean all of the contacts along with a Clothes Pin and thus far there has been no more stalling during or after a 100 mile trip, drivability has improved, and mileage recorded prior has been 13.5MPG. If mileage goes up at all this will have to be one of the easiest and least expensive DIY quick fixes even for novices.

 

Here's a question bout the ground on your computer. Was it always like that or did you put it there cause on mine that ones never been there for as long as I've owned the truck

 

The ground there is original factory setup. If you are missing that ground, that may very well be something to resolve considering how they are all very important in closing circuit loops.

 

Truck started stalling, dieing, and giving me the magic NOBUS signal again. None of the zip ties came loose, so I checked all of the connections and that did nada. I tried to cool it off with water and that did the trick. Now I've got wet rags on the top and bottom of this PCM and a cooler of water in the bed of the truck as a solution for now...

I just ordered my replacement PCM for 350 with a lifetime warranty.

To think I paid this truck off when I first bought it in 2005 and I am still making payments; Hoorah!

At least it runs well when it does in fact decide to run...

 

So after 6 days of dealing with wires and testing voltages turns out the spare pcm I had was no good and 3 bad grounds are to blame. One coming off the battery to the engine was grounded to the water pump. Another was grounded to the a/c compressor and one off the firewall was dangling. Fixed all that and plugged the original pcm back in and everything fired up. Now I just gotta change a faulty iac since my idle is all over the map
