Yep, I'm worried about more friction once the chain is riding in the groove and also particles getting into the oil.

All the fuses are good. I didn't clean the connectors when I hooked new battery up. I changed the key lock cylinder and didn't do anything.that's about all I've done.

Hey, I bought the Comp, I originally commented on this thread about the dots being stupid. The thread was brought back up. Which dot is right then? None of them line up 6 and 12 do they? I was thinking about going Mopar just because Mopar.

If you get the Mopar set, there are 2 dots, a big dot and a teeny tiny little dot that looks more like a machining mistake. The teeny tiny dot on the Cam gear is the one to use. It worked for me. I'd stay away from the Mopar set though because of the dot issue.

Oh my goodness, I've never noticed that little dot. I bought a Comp Cams one and it has way too much slack. I'm gonna make a thread about that little dot, I feel like a lot of people have this problem. I never saw that little dot, IMO it should be on the raised part of the crank gear. Thanks Man!

I got my Mopar Performance chain with my M1 and I gotta agree the dot issue is dumb. Needs to be more pronounced. However after the big dot wouldn't line up I did some looking I found the little dot. Tried that and it lined up perfect. Double checked the package and it did in fact mention it so I wasn't worried. Also no tensioner.

So, messing with valves and pistons and timing usually gives me pause.

I would like to do this and it seems like it is fairly straight-forward. I couldn't find any write-ups on this in the DIY section. How hard is this and any tips/tricks?

(I will keep trying to find a write-up, either here or maybe on another forum)

Timing set is actually pretty easy. Dig down to them, line things up, off with the old, on with the new, and down the road you go. This single change made the biggest difference in how my truck ran. I was amazed at the new-found power the engine had. Of course, with over 160K on the originals, it was REALLY sloppy......
