Default 01 Ram 2500 5.9 v8 blowing soot

I'm having an issue with my truck blowing excessive amounts of soot when I'm in the throttle heavy. It's to the point where my buddies tell me I'm blowing more soot then our buddies powerstroke...im thinking its a little bit of an exaggeration but none the less I have taken notice to it blowing a decent bit of black soot especially at night when there's a car behind me. Any idea at what could be causing this? It does consume a decent bit of oil, which raises my attention to the plenum but I just want to make sure the truck runs great, motors not leaking, great oil pressure, great temp

Running rich. How old are your O2 sensors? If the plenum is bad, the sensors fail shortly thereafter.

+1 plenum and o2
Just did mine. No noticeable oil burn since and I had to do the o2 as well sine it was real rich. Truck has almost 1000 miles since plenum

I'm not sure, I haven't had the truck all that long and the place I bought it from didn't give me a whole lot of information on the truck. What would it need to fix it?

So at this point would it be recommended just to do the plenum and O2 sensors at this point? Don't know if this makes a difference but the truck is straight piped with a ground pounder for now until I get a chance to get a flowmaster

Well I have no cat. Just a rotted out muffler. When the o2 went I blew smoke. At least try replacing the o2. Problem is if the plenum is bad the o2 will go again too

Okay ill give that a try, if the O2 sensor is shot wouldn't it throw the check engine light? because I have no lights on at all.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of failure modes for the O2 sensor that won't set a code, but, will certainly make the engine run funky.

Need to check your plenum, and see if it's bad.

Okay so ill just change it to be safe, and at this point my truck has roughly 115K on it and has some if not most of the symptoms of the plenum, so once I put the new locker in, its going to the shop to get a clutch because I don't have time to do it so ill have them replace the o2 and the plenum because id rather just do it now then later
