Default Please Recommend Me Some Budget Shocks For 01 Off Road Edition

Hello all,

I've got a 2001 Ram extended cab with the off road package. I bought the truck with 125,000 miles on it and now it's got 132,000. The shocks are original. I've always know the truck to ride rough but I don't have a basis for comparison since I've not owned it that long.

I also moved to the city this year and won't be leaving in the forseeable future so I am more interested in comfort than anything else. The current ride is very jarring over rough pavement and I'd like to smooth it out. I realize it's sprung so stiffly that it will always have a rough-ish ride, but I want to minimize that as much as possible.

I am a graduate student so I need something pretty cheap. I am willing to spend a little more for quality but I simply cannot afford bilsteins.

Suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Will those work on an off road edition? Many shocks specify on rock auto that they will or will not work. The monroe's don't.

I liked the Bilstein 4600 Series I put on my 04 quad cab 4x4 hemi. I replaced the originals 4 years in, and sold the truck at 11 years - still working just fine. Not the cheapest option. I stuck Monroes on my '00 2500 4x4, but can't comment on the ride because it is still partially dissembled (progress paused for winter since the "shop" is the concrete pad outside!).

For anyone interested, I called Monroe and they don't make ANY shocks for the Off Road Group Rams. Their sister company Rancho makes a special version of their shocks for the off road rams.

The ORE is basically a gas 2500 in terms of the shocks. So alot of shocks will fit from local parts store.

O thanks interesting. I didn't know that. I went to the rancho site and you're correct. The off road edition RS5000X shock for the 1500's is the same exact one as for a regular 2500. Same part number and everything. Another interesting thing however, is that if you go to Monroe's site and look for shocks for the 2500, the compressed and extended lengths are different.

I did a lot of reading on these Ranchos. A bunch of guys on the different jeep forums all say they hated the RS5000's but love the new RS5000X's. We will see in a few days how they do on the ram. Worst case scenario is I hate them and I return them. Rancho has their 90 day return for any reason deal so it shouldn't be an issue. It's nice to know I have options though if I don't like em.

Any stock 1500 shocks will fit a stock ORE. Regular 1500 shocks are good for 0-2" of lift. You can also get shocks for 2-3" of lift. Don't need anything specifically for the ORE
