Default cold weather tramsnission blues

Sunday it was -32, Sunday before -27, my trans didn't shift going to church 15 mi. sat for 3 hr then shazam it shifts. I've had this w/ my 97@180,000, my 97 w/237,000 & 01 w/ 100,000, What's up wrench guys works perfectly otherwise? Thanks

Apparently, it just doesn't like the cold. After sitting, and heat-soaking for a bit, things start working again. I am not entirely sure that there IS a fix for that.... you could try the borg-warner heavy duty solenoid/sensor set, but, no guarantee that will solve it.

That's just the nature of the beast. When it's good and cold out and your truck's been sitting in it, shift into Neutral before starting the engine and leave it to idle until the temp gauge is about halfway from the bottom pin to the first bar of the normal range. That'll warm the ATF enough that it shouldn't cause any problems.

Myself, I avoid that problem by letting the truck sleep in the house at night.

Does it sleep on the floor at the foot of your bed?

I think my dog would be pissed..... SHE gets to sleep on the bed.......

Nah. It sleeps under the sofa where the dog can't get at it to chew on it.

Thank you @ least this winter it warms up a bit before it gets cold, 2 yrs ago it was COLD all winter
