Default V10 head stumper

I am doing an engine swap on my 2000 3500. The replacement engine came out of a 96 2500. I just noticed that the intakes are slightly different. The 96 intake (first pic) has some extra ports on it that are not on the 2000 intake (2nd pic). I have no idea what these ports are for and they seem to lead absolutely no where and I do not remember if anything was in them or not. Can any one please shed some light on what may go here?

Looks like with some machining, an EGR valve could be installed there. ?

Yep. That's for EGR. If there is actually a valve there on your original intake, need to install that one, else the PCM is going to be annoyed.

ok thanks that what I needed to know. I think I will just clean up the 2000 intake and put that one on the engine. I don't want to deal with having to move the egr from the inner fender to the intake.

Real possibility that the 2000 didn't require EGR to meet emissions requirements, therefore, it wasn't included.

It does have one but it's located in the passenger side inner fender.

Are you sure it is EGR? (exhaust gas recirculation) and not the vapor purge system? So far as I know, the v-8 trucks didn't have EGR after 95.
