Couple Of plenum related questions
Yes yes I know, very beat to death topic, but I have spent countless hours researching and reading, and still have a few questions.
I am going to be doing the plenum gasket this weekend.
I guess ill start with the fuel rail... Can it be left on and tied up out of the way? Or do you have to remove the QD fitting?
Does anyone know the dimensions of the injector O-rings? I know I could remove them and match some up, but I'm going to be pressed for time and would like to get them in advance, as the parts store is over an hour away round trip. Anything special about them? Will parts store O-rings work? the dealer wants $12 for one injectors worth of O-rings...
I am also going to be swapping the timing chain. I bought a Cloyes HD double roller and it has the option of advancing/retarding timing 4 degrees. Whats everyone thoughts on retarding for more low end? is it worth doing or just better to leave alone?
Hopefully someone can help..
Ohh yeah, I was at the dealer today and ran my Vin, turns out i have a sought after Off-road edition
Pretty friggin happy about that. I've tried to get a build sheet before but they don't give them out in Canada anymore apparently. But then I found the page online....

Youll spend less time with the qd than the orings. Besides the fuel rails make nice handles to lift it off and set back on the engine. Dont use them to break it free of the motor. Just be aware of them while working on it.
Ive read That are trucks dont like anything but the stock settings on the timing chain.
Now is a good time to change the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs since the plenum is out of the way.
When taking off the timing cover be sure not to tear the oil pan gasket.
Good luck...

Probably a silly question, but is RTV silicon used on the timing cover at all? Or is it purely sealed by a gasket?
I used RTV super black around the coolant passages, and that was it. Sealed up good, no leaks, still good after a couple years.

Did I say brass? I meant copper. But, yeah, first thing I do when I get a vehicle I do plugs and cap (if it has one). NOW I find out it prefers the better cap. I get yo re-do my cap too.
They are brass. Copper corrodes to quickly.
In all reality, the aluminum poles work just as well..... If you use some dielectric grease on them, they don't oxidize as quickly. The thing that kills them is the carbon buildup on the parts that stick into the cap, that the spark jumps to from the rotor. This happens whether your terminals are brass, or aluminum.
