After it hits o/d, you should see the rpm drop another couple of hundred without it "shifting" gears (you should be able to hear the change). That's the converter locking up.

So, you may have to go back into the tranny, check to make sure your TCC solenoid is hooked up and working. Give me a bit and I will check the wiring diagrams, maybe you can do a continuity test from the 8-pin connector on the exterior of the tranny before you have to drop the pan.

Looks like you should have continuity between pins 1 and 7 ON THE TRANSMISSION SIDE of the wiring. I would also check pins 1 and 6, pins 1 and 5.

It might also Possible that the Overdrive Lockup equipped is being faulty or just dunzo........but You sound like you have overdrive just at a different RPM.

I dunno if I personally would worry or think much of it, especially if that is the first time after manufacture the thing has had the case open.
Exclusion would be the obvious situation where "abnormal overdrive RPM" was accompanied by other abnormalities ie vibration or noises.

Unplug the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans, it's about halfway back. Go for a drive. Keep in mind, you will have ZERO automatic function of the trans. It will stay in the gear you tell it to. So, start in first, slowly accelerate, and make sure you get three gears. You won't get O/D, or TCC engage, as those are electrically controlled. If the trans goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, then you just have an electronic problem, and more'n likely replacing the governor pressure sensor/solenoid set will fix it.

But first.... Verify that you ARE getting 12 volts TO the trans.
