Cool Stubborn Tranny (96 Ram 1500)

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 that's not shifting. It doesn't go past 2nd gear. It will stay in first for a long time or until I let off the gas. The CEL is on... now and then it goes off and it'll shift into 3rd but then the CEL comes back on and it won't go past 2nd again. It did shift this morning when it was cold but only after I let off the gas. Any guesses on whats wrong with it?

OH! When I first saw the title, I thought you were talking about the guy down the street from me.

I'm guessing that it wants a code reader plugged in so it can tell you what it's unhappy about.

I didn't say that you couldn't just spend money and turn wrenches without knowing why, I just suggested a cheaper, faster, more logical approach.

ya there's about a million things that **** these trannys off. Get a code reader on there, most likely failing solenoid, most likely falling into limp mode or some version of it.

My bad... didn't see the link you posted... thanks for that!
