Default Which tuner should I purchase?

Looking at some handheld tuner devices online, what brand name is the best to purchase to be able to tune my 5.9 magnum? Planning on upgrading cam and heads

No. SCT is different than superchips.

Since you're changing cam I'd go with SCT with tuning by Flyin Ryan, also plan on installing a wideband o2 so he can tune it appropriately

^^His canned tunes are great too. Better than any Hemifever tune custom or otherwise.

Okay, I do plan on getting a tune, and new camshaft. Exactly what type of cam should I be looking at? I don't want something that's too excessive. Just mild. And specifically what would come with this sct tuner?

What do you want to do with your truck? If you tow/haul/off-road, then you want something that gives you power down low. An "RV" cam, or some such.

If you're not doing anything too crazy and don't really need custom, I just sold my '01 and have a Flashpaq for sale (#3842). It was the best bang for the buck that I EVER spent on that truck. Impressive performance and great for towing. Day and night difference from factory setting.

Have you read The Scantools, OBD II Readers, and Programmers Thread in the General Forum?
