Looking to replace the HVAC bulb (the bulb behind the HVAC controls and fan speed) on my 96 Ram. There are two bulbs behind the HVAC panel on the dash, and they are extremely small bulbs inside a white plastic housing at the base. I need a part number, or a link to where I can buy one. Here's a picture of the bulb (that's a dime beside the bulb). At the base of the bulb's plastic base is says "14V" and there's also a "2" in the plastic base.

Thanks.

Google "1996 Dodge Ram HVAC bulb". You'll find out soon enough.

Thank-you for taking the time to assist me - gee; I never would have thought of that - looking on the internet.

Oh wait:

I guess I should have prefaced my post by saying "I googled 1996 Dodge Ram HVAC bulb (and variations of the same terminology) and struck out prior to posting on this forum". I got posts for later model rams, and bulbs that looked like they were close (or couldn't tell from the picture), but no luck. Not that I'm the world's expert on googling for information, but I'm usually pretty good at it.

I guess I should have also prefaced my post by saying "I also did a search on this forum to no avail".

I guess I should have also prefaced my post by saying "I also looked at Rock Auto to no avail".

I guess I should have also prefaced my post by saying "The owner's manual mentions a bulb "158", but GOOGLING that part number turned up a much larger bulb".

I guess I should have also prefaced my post by saying "If you're going to tell me to google it, don't waste my time". But that wouldn't be nice when you're asking for help.

If anyone has replaced their HVAC bulbs on a 96 Ram and can steer me in the right direction (like a link or a part number) I'd appreciate it.

Oops - I went all smart-a$$ on the site moderator.

Have you tried your local auto parts store? Just sayin'.

You can order, off the inter webs, a 12v "wheat" or "grain of rice" bulb. Your bulb is just put in that holder and then the leads are bent around it, so they make contact with the surface contacts in the housing. They come out quite easily.

The rice bulbs are smallest, smaller than the wheat bulbs.

Looking at the bulb again, it looks like the wheat bulb. Also, the stealer (dealer) has them with the plastic holder.

Are they listed in the parts manual? (those are available for download in the faq section.)

Rice bulbs... wheat bulbs; ok - that's a start. I guess I can unbend the wires and pull the bulb out and see if I can match it up with something.

I checked Auto Zone and O'Reilly's without success prior to starting this post.

I have not gone to the dealer (only because they're not close). But that's on my list if I keep striking out.

I looked in the owner's manual (said "158" which is wrong). I haven't checked the parts manual.
