So, plug the broken tuner into your PC, via usb cable. Use file explorer to see if the computer sees it. If it does, you should be able to copy whatever files are there, and copy them across to the other tuner. Hopefully......

I was thinking that, but not sure if that would work.. I believe there is a special program that they go into these things with, but I'll give it a shot.

Can't hurt to try it. There has to be a way for the user to get new tunes onto them, for the folks doing custom tunes.

A file is a file, unless it's encrypted. That being said, I'm sure it has some kind of funky name that will make no sense to us normal people. If you see similar file names on both devices: first copy and paste them from the new tuner to a folder on your PC. Name it something that you will remember. Then copy and paste the files from the old tuner to the new. If all else fails, you can "probably" copy and paste the originals (now on your PC) back into the new tuner and it "may" work.

Go to the SCT website and find the device updater for your model tuner. Once you have it downloaded you should find a button that says "Get Stock File From Device".

After that, you might be able to find a program to transfer it from one device to the other... but I don't know for sure if it will work.
The biggest problem I think you will run in to is the ECM will be locked (married) to the old scanner and won't allow any other tune to be loaded, even factory. That is why the dealer told you they had a 50/50 chance.

All updates for custom tuning are sent via email and loaded into the updater, then loaded into the truck.

This is the opening screen for my device updater.

I would use this, but my device is the older X2 model and is not supported by this software

That sucks. I wonder if you can pull the stock file out using a hex editor of some kind. All of the info is written in hexadecimal.

Hmm.. I'm really thinking about just a new computer at this point, I really hate the way my truck shifts with this 93 tune on it. Allows for lockup at a way later point and creates alot of unnecessary heat in my transmission.
