Exclamation Clicking during idle only

im new to these forums, so i dont know if this is the right place to post... I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4wd and during idle there is a loud clicking noise i cant make out where it is coming from, when i put it into any other gear (R/D/N/1/2) the noise completely goes away, some times when i drive it for a while and stop and throw it into Park it quiets down almost all the way but you can still here a faint noise, im no mechanic i dont know what the noise would be, any help is appreciated

Can you at least tell if it's coming from the engine or some other part of the vehicle?

I mean if it's doing it at idle, get out and walk around to pinpoint it.

Bottom end is not specific enough, Get under the vehicle and try to pinpoint where. Cat, Transmission bell housing, Exhaust by the rear etc...

are you certain it is coming from underneath? sound can carry funny ..
raise the hood when noise it at its worst and work your way around the engine bay then under the truck... don't forget park, e-brake and block the wheels before going under
and as always watch for moving parts

Which gear is it in when you hear the clicking?

Does it change if you change RPMs?

Is there a particular time that it changes volume?

Does it only do it if the truck is moving?

Neutral, E-brake, and chocks. There, problem solved!

Seriously tho, what's different between Park and Neutral that would click?
