Default Brake Controller Harness Plug

Ok guys I have a 2001 2500 quad cab 4x4 truck with the 5.9V8.

My question is wouldn't all 2500 trucks come with the factory tow package?

I ask because I cant find the blue plug that is suppose to under the dash to plug
the brake controller in. The truck does have a receiver and 7 way plug but im unsure if those are factory.

Whats your thoughts? I was hoping adding a brake controller would not require wire splicing.

Thanks in advance

Check your build sheet. There is a link in the faq/diy section to get one from Chrysler. Either that, or most any dealer should be able to get you one as well.

Tow package was an option. You may or may not have it.

Thanks, got the build sheet. It doesn't say tow package any where specifically but it does say

ADJ - heavy duty service group
AHJ - camper special group
AJK - convenience group

Any idea what those 3 things consist of?

Camper special just adds heavy duty springs, and rear sway bar. Nothing for trailer brakes. That was part of the tow package.

That said, it's a rare occasion indeed where dodge actually used model specific harnesses in their trucks. Most of them have all the hookups for the options, whether it had the options or not....... Of course, there are always exceptions......

I can't find much specific info on the others.

Thanks for the replies, really surprises me this truck doesn't have the plug. I've looked all over under the dash though and don't see it. Even looked for cut wires just in case someone had cut out the plug for some reason.

I guess now on to figure out how to splice into what's already there. Thanks again

If you don't already have one, you can download a service manual for your truck from this thread. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W. Hopefully make your life a bit easier.

Mine has the trailer package and when i went to hook up the brake controller i also couldn't find it. I called three dealerships and two of them didn't even know what i was talking about. If it's there it will be between the steering column and the kick panel. I believe it was tied up with the rest of the harness so it didn't fall down. Just move some of the wires around, If it's there you'll find it.

As Moparite says, it's supposed to be under the dash somewhere around the steering column. The manual says it's a 4-way connector. I can send you the pinout when you find it.

I'll give it another look but I'm confident there's nothing there. I've seen a few pictures and it's been blue 4 pin connector but i can't find one.

Maybe if someone could take a picture of there's showing where the wires come from I could try to track it down better? Thanks for all input guys
