Default 5.2 to 5.9 swap...

Alright i have spent the last 2 hours reading on some 5.2 to 5.9 swaps. Also got side tracked with the rest of the random threads... haha. Basically a deer in headlights moment... truck has developed a really rough idle and im assuming it is either a burnt valve or timing issue... a buddy of mine has a 360 from a 2500 ram van with 120k on the engine it. The trans is destroyed in the van... I have the nv4500 5 spd trans and need to know what i need to swap the two engines. my truck is a 01 and the van is a 2000... a posi is goin in the truck after the engine swap.

Correct flywheel, pilot bearing/bushing, flash the PCM for the larger engine, or, get a different pcm for the engine/trans combo, and have it flashed to your vin. Aside from that, it should bolt right in, hook right up, and just work. You *can* run it off the 5.2 programming..... but, you are going to run lean in open loop, unfortunately, that is generally the most demanding circumstance for the engine. (large throttle openings, heavy load..... ((on the engine, not necessarily pulling something.)))

As noted above, you'll need to swap the flexplate/flywheel...The flexplate on 5.9's are weighted because the engines are externally balanced. Your 5.2 engine is internally balanced so the flexplate is neutral.

Tell your buddy I'll give 100 dollars more than whatever you will give him for that engine.

All kidding aside, what hey you said.

You should be able to pull the pilot bushing out of the 5.2 flywheel and pit it in the 5.9 flywheel. But definitely get a new pilot bearing. Might as well just do a whole clutch job.
