There is nothing to limit the travel of the shoes when the drum is off. Stepping all the way down on the pedal when it is, pretty much guarantees the result you just saw.

Fluid pressure just fills a hole in between the two pistons in the wheel cylinder. The side that has less force holding it in will expand first, until force is equalized, then the other side will start to expand. When the drum is in place, one side will expand till it contacts the drum, (hence, can't move any further) then the other side will do the same. Things there are working as you would expect.

You *might* be able to put the cylinder back together, and be ok. You WILL need to bleed your rear brakes again though, as a bunch of air just got in there.

Did you pre-adjust the rear shoes after you put them on?

Hey dbbd1, yes sir, I did pre-adjust the star wheel thing before putting back on the drums.
I took the whole thing back off, everything, back off again! Put it all back together, again. It did great, again. But it only does great for a day of so. The red "brake" light and the orange "ABS" light that always stays on, like since I got the truck, well those even cut off this time!

I was so happy about those 2 lights cutting off and it not squealing when I pushed the brakes this time! And, I thought it was FIXED, for sure, this time! I drove it all over the place. A lot that day. But.....

Next day, after about 5 mins of driving, lights came back on the dash as they have always done. And, that stupid squeal started right back up exactly like it was doing. Everytime I hit the brakes. And its def at the drivers rear.

Man, I just dont know whats happening here. Nor do I know what to try next. I have taken off these shoes and all the springs, clips, everything, and started from bare scratch. With new kits as well! Each time it does the SAME thing. Works good, actually great for a bit. But then, out of the blue, it starts the squealing when pushing pedal(after its warmed up) and those lights have always come on(except this time, they actually cut off, for a whole day!)

I felt down there by the drums and it did seem the drivers was warmer than the pass side. Also, I bled them right as HeyYou said to do.

I dont get it. I've tried a lotttt of taking em off over n over, getting drums turned, checked the e-brake which I feel is working right and I dont know what to try next! Maybe just get another set of new shoes as HeyYou suggested if it keeps on doing it. This sort of sux at this point.
