Default Clicking noise in 4x4

Every time I put my truck in 4x4, it makes a clicking noise that speeds up and slows down with the speed of my truck. I'm thinking it's just a u-joint but I don't feel any play in them.. The noise goes away when im just coasting but if I'm accelerating or braking, it comes back. Anyone else have any experience with this issue? I can try to get a video of the noise tomorrow if needed.

Sounds to me like a front u-joint is going. Had a similar noise with my truck and it went away when I replaced the front axle u-joints

That's what I'm hoping but I just havent gotten a chance to drop the driveshaft and check considering it's been like 5 degrees out the past couple days and my truck doesn't fit in my garage. I'm just confused because I got under it and tried to find some play in the u-joints and I don't feel anything.

Check the wheel u joints. The front drive shaft only moves when in 4X4 so i doubt they are bad.

Just did the axle shaft u joints a few weeks ago. I did realize that if I held onto the transfer case ****, I could feel a slight vibration that went along with the noise.

I had to have my front driveshaft rebuilt.... both joints in the CV joint right at the t-case were pretty much seized up.... the differential end of the shaft has had that joint replaced twice........ They do indeed go bad.

does it have some humming/buzzing sound with the clicking? I had the same problem last winter and thought my chain was going out or something. I didn't have any play at all in the front drive shaft but when I pulled it out to get to my 02 sensor, the front joint on the shaft felt stiff. the CV joint on the transfer case end still felt pretty good, so I changed out the front joint as long as it was out and problems are gone. I was surprised that a dry joint could sound that bad.

Could be a stretched chain in the case.

Just dropped the driveshaft. It seems like its my cv joint. Just gonna get a new/used driveshaft from my local junk yard for like $20.

Put it in 4wd and turn the front output shaft back and forth to see if the chain is sloppy while the driveshaft is out. It shouldn't turn much if the chain is good. Hopefully it's just the drive shaft.
