Default LED Tail Lights Not Blinking

Hey guys, Tom here.

I am having a problem with my new LED tail lights from LMC Truck. Part #56-6968

There are no instructions with these tail lights. Pretty straight forward though. 2 light sockets. Bottom socket is the reverse lights. Top socket is the brake, blinker, and parking lights.

I plug the new connector from the new tail lights into the top socket and the LED lights work fine but they don't blink when I turn the blinker on. I hear one click and the LED lights turn bright but they don't blink. I tried different combinations like turning on the parking lights first then hitting the blinker, still nothing. Any suggestions?

I called LMC and am waiting to hear back from them. I find it hard to believe that BOTH tail lights do the same thing so I think something is wrong with my truck maybe voltage or something but I dunno. I don't have voltage specs from new LED tail lights so I have no way of testing this until I hear back from LMC.

I will keep this post updated on my findings but any input if you have experience with LED voltages would help!

Thanks,
Tom

You need to get an electronic flasher any time you install led's. The old flashers work off of amp load, You took away about half by installing led's so that's why it wont flash.

You mean this thing? The gold unit installed with the LED lights? 50W 8 ohm

No that's a resistor! This...

But the resistor "should" be going the job. They consider it a "load" resistor. Did your old tail lights work normally? If so, then there may be a problem with the new ones.

Do you have to plug that plug into one of your existing light bulb sockets? Try flipping it 180* and plugging it back in.

Yeah if you look at the picture I posted at the top there is the plug, flat, it's identical to a replacement bulb, the connector on the bulb. So basically the plug on the new tail light plugs right into the old existing light socket as though it were a bulb. Anyway, I tried plugging it in both ways, first plugged it in, then flipped it over, still same issue.

So tell me what would happen if I got an LED relay.

1. Would it replace the one in my fuse panel aka remove oem relay, plug in LED one?
2. Would new relay work OK with that built in resistor?

I guess I'm thinking the relay could help me diagnose the resistor issue.

And learn me this, how is the resistor supposed to work like an LED relay, does it detect the pulses and give amperage feedback to the oem relay that it's working?

Thanks, I'm not schooled very well in electronics.

It might make a difference.
The resistor just adds resistance to mimic the current load of your typical light bulb. The new relay replaces yours in the fuse panel on the side of the dash. And, the new style, for LED's will not care if you have regular bulbs or LED's.

Just to help clear up which relay (correct me if I'm wrong please, I was getting confused ) They are talking about the flashers in this picture:

One flasher is for the hazards, and one is for the turn signals if your truck has both. I think dodge switched to a single flasher at some point, but I could be wrong.

Did you try to flip the plug around? In one direction they will go on but wont flash when you flip it around it will flash. But then you do need the above mentioned electronic flasher to make them blink normally so you don't look like the little ricers around town.

#EDIT: I forgot to mention now that I have the 552 relay installed for the turn signals, it no longer detects that a bulb is disconnected or broken and continues to blink whether the rear tail light is working or not.

Well it looks like I figured it out by replacing the Relay in the fuse panel. Tell me if this sounds correct.

I pulled the flasher fuse relay and walked into AZ to get an LED compatible one. They didn't sell the one I pulled out of truck(224). Only sell the 552 series. I thought that was weird. So I bought the 552, plugged it in and its working now.

The hazards already had a 552 as you can see in my pictures.

Here is the old relay I pulled out, is this OEM?

And here is the replacement 552 relay that is working. Cost me $6.99. The diagram above is correct, top relay is the hazard flashers, bottom relay is the turn signals.
