Auto down power window
Yes, the auto feature is part of the switch. The window motor is a simple dc reversing motor, it only has two wires going to it. Cut and swap those wires (either at the motor or the switch) and call it good. Up will be down and down will be up, though. You may want to swap the wires on the passenger side too, just for the sake of confusion. Although, it will confuse your passengers.
I'll show my age here but a lot of the older cars used to have a switch that the driver could flip that would render all other window control and lock functions dead but the drivers. I think it was so the kids couldn't launch themselves out of the car.
If your truck is anything like my 01 Sport, the switch for the drivers window is actually a 2 part switch. It has like a double click (a full press) which is the auto down, but also has a regular (not auto) down thats like 1 switch or half a press or so.. At least mine does. Its not ONLY an auto down. If that doesnt make sense tell me and I'll try to explain better. You should see if your window is like that also. The first click is just a regular non auto down, and then if you press it fully to its farthest setting, that is an auto down.
With any luck yours will be like mine and you'll just have to learn some fine motor skills in your finger and avoid the auto down.

As suggested I'll try reversing the wires to make it auto up instead.
I poked around Ebay and found switches from 98 that weren't marked auto. The switches for 99-up are marked auto and have different part numbers. Once the snow stops flying I'm going to a local junk yard and try and find one from a 98 not marked auto and try it if reversing the wires doesn't work. I need a few other things anyway so it wont be a wasted trip.
Besides digging the truck out of a snowbank for the third third day in a row
, I started comparing the wiring at the switch pods today. I want to make sure I don't blow anything up by plugging my 01 harness into a 98 switch, an ounce of prevention as they say. I'm comparing the wiring using the diagrams in the appropriate year service manuals.
When I go to the bone yard I'll bring a battery from one of my tools with me so I can power up just the window in the doner truck to try the switch. I'll also grab as much of the harness I can with the switch in case I need to play around with the wiring.

It's not supposed to fit my ' 99, but it does and works. No "auto" down function.
And, the switches are lit?!?!? Who knew? I may replace the passenger side just for the lights in the switches (if mine EVER had them, they are burnt out now).
