Default 99 1500 instrument cluster issue

Hello, my friend and i are trying to fix his truck. When you turn the key on, the gauges freak out, the lights flash, and it dings. The radio is also inop. When you push the parking brake in, the gauges work, the dinging stops, but the radio still doesnt work. I dont even know where to begin with this thing. Weve tried different radios and none work. Thoughts?

Ok, you can do a cluster test, by pushing in, and holding, the trip reset button, then turning the ignition to "on". All the lights should light up, and all the gauges should sweep. (or, is that what is happening already?)

If that works as advertised, then the problem isn't IN the cluster, it's elsewhere. (and gonna be GREAT fun to find.....)

Push the trip reset button, and hold it. Turn ignition key On. Release trip reset button.

Cluster should march thru its test.

May have a trashed cluster, or central timer module. (the little box that sends info to the cluster.) You can get a service manual for your truck from here. There might be some troubleshooting info in there....
