Default 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 transmission problems

hi I have a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 318 that has tranny problems. To begin with when I start the truck the tranny shifts into gear and drives but when the motor seems to have warmed up the tranny won't pull at all. I've checked fluids and everything so what do you guys think my problem could be?

On the drivers side of the trans, about halfway back, there is an 8 pin connector. Unplug it, and go for a drive. Bear in mind, the trans will have ZERO automatic function. It should start out in the gear you put it in, and it won't shift into any other gear, until you tell it to. TCC, and O/D will not work at all. So, go for a bit of a drive, bearing in mind you HAVE to shift manually, (and carefully) and see if it shifts into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to.

Might wanna try this test once the trans has already decided it doesn't want to work right. (warmed up good)

If it works when unplugged, you just need to change some electronics in the trans, if it doesn't, it's rebuild time.

Make sure that you are checking the fluid in neutral, not park.

I'll have to try that I was looking a little and was thinking it might be the transmission solenoid but I'll have to try that for sure thanks

If the test outlined above fails, replacing the electronics won't fix it.

Well I started the truck and cold it pulled and when it warmed up I put it in gear and while in gear it wouldn't pull until after a while of being put in gear I still haven't tried what you told me due to the weather but I think that is a good sign.

I just changed the transmission fluid to the truck because I found a quart of regular atf tranny fluid in the back so we changed it with atf+4 we didn't fully flush the system and now it's shifting into gear when motor is hot one problem is that it won't shift when I'm going about 30 sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't

It's possible your pump may be going. How many miles on the truck and has the trans ever been rebuilt or replaced? Could get some gauges put in the test ports and see what the pressures are doing when the trans warms up.
