Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Oxygen Sensor Replacement

Hey Guys New Member here. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Auto 5.2L with 200k+ Miles that is having rough idle & jerking in 50mph+ randomly.
Got the Check Engine Light Test Yesterday & had 4 Codes: P1740, P0420, P0138, P1494.
I think 2 of them are related to Both Oxygen Sensors. So I'm gonna order both of them from www.rockauto.com & i wantta make sure im getting the right ones. Links Below: Upstream Sensor Downstream Sensor
Any removal tips/help would be appreciated.

Start hitting them with chems today. PB Blaster works pretty good. Hit them at least once every day, for a couple days before you try and pull them. There is a specific socket for O2 sensors, but, I found that a pipe wrench works just as well (if not better...) to remove them. Not like it is a part you need to re-use. That, and a big hammer to get them to break loose, then they come out easy.

Welcome to DF!.

Don't expect the O2 sensors to completely solve the problem though. What you have is a misfire, likely due to a blown plenum. See the stickied thread at the tops of this forum for more info on that.

Yeah I work on a Crop Farm & that PB Blaster Works great! Plan on spraying some on it soon.
On RockAuto they have a Oxygen Sensor Socket for like $9 bucks, so I'm gonna get one.
One thing I noticed when i just crawled under my truck to check it out is: HOW THE HECK do you undo the connectors? They are on top of the trans.... I can't really see either connectors so idk what ti grab/twist/push or whatever.
Previous Owners looks to have removed the CAT so i know thats not a issue haha!

Also my problems started happening late last summer & never did it again/never gave me a problem when cold temps started (I live in Alabama) And now started back up as the temps get above 60ish degrees. So thats why im thinking the Oxygen Sensors should fix most of it.
Correct me if I;m wrong...

I agree with Hey You, you need to check your plenum as well, it's a common issue with these trucks and would explain part of the issue you are having. You can read the plenum thread here.

Your plenum may have blown, allowing oil from the lifter valley into the intake, which then worked it's way into your combustion cylinders, causing you to burn some oil , which would have ruined the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors. It's worth checking out.

There is a tab you press to release the connector from the other side. So, push it in, press down on the tab, pull it out.

Watch what sensors you get. Stay away from the Bosch brand ones. Our trucks don't seem to care for them. NTK brand work well.
