Question Bad Turn Signal Switch?

Hey guys,

Working to get my 1998 Ram 1500 ready for inspection. I knew I had a left turn signal bulb out, flipped the switch to left, flashed quickly as I expected, but my wipers also activated when I did that. Wipers did not activate with right turn signal, only left.

Am I to assume I have to replace the multi-function switch?

I was wondering if anybody else out there had this problem. I'm putting a lot of money into this truck for inspection hoping it's going to be worth it. She only has 127,000 on the clock, but hasn't seen maintenance since who know's when.

Thanks for any and all help guys. I think she can be a good truck, but money, not time, will tell.

Replace the bulb first, might just be a backfeed issue.

Welcome to DF!

Does it happen repeatedly?

Yes, every time I use the left turn signal.
I did replace the bulb, it still flashes quickly and turns the wipers on

Thanks for the welcome!
I replaced the bulb. It still flashes quickly like a blown bulb, and the wipers still come on

Pull the covers off the steering column, and see what the wiring looks like.

I will definitely do that right after work tomorrow. It's raining cats and dogs here right now.
You thinking a pinched wire? If so, I will give them a good looking over.

Thanks for all the good info. Will let you know...

The column harness was just a bit shorter than it really needed to be, so, if you have tilt-wheel, the wires get pulled out of the connectors, and that can cause some interesting problems.
