Signal and flasher problem on 96 2500 Cummins
Correct buddy! None of the afore mentioned fuctions including the brake lights work without that button depressed. But depressing the button does nothing for the 4 ways and that's its sole pupose???
Thank you buddy I'll have to check tomorrow because mylighting is limited but I will scrutinize that manual though!! I'm still really baffled as how the negative lead feeding the power distribution box is hot?? And at the alternator too! I read a full 12 volts from ground to ground. Thanks again and I greatly appreciate the time you're taking to help me.
Well that's a relief to know that lead from the alt. is supposed to be hot. In answer to your brake light question, I have power to only one contact at the very end of the harness connector. With or without the the key on if that helps. Thank you again!! Also I checked all other terminals with the key on and signal indicators activated and got nothing.

Does the third brake lite work?
have you check fuse 3(40a), and fuse C(15a), in the PDC?
also, fuse 6 in the side of the dash. (test this one, even if it looks good.)
Are you getting power to the turn signal flasher?

I checked the two fuses in the PDC that you mentioned and they are both good. I will do further dianostics within the interior fuse panel thanks again Hey You, you're terrific for helping me because I'm stumped. This truck does have a factory towing package and I haven't checked the trailor connections yet but I will. At least with the hazard button depressed all directionals work inside and out so the trailor lights can be tested also.
Will say this in my 96 I had no turn signals (everything else worked) turned out the LEFT terminal for the flasher came loose. You have power going somewhere it shouldn't, or a bad ground and the switch is grounding all the lights out instead of the 4 ways like it should.
Thanks, MoparFanatic. I just discovered today that I have no power to the Fuse C(15a) in the PDC that HeyYou told me to check. I previously checked that fuse but didn't check for voltage like I should have. I have removed the PDC cover to expose the wiring underneath but cannot find any obvious problems but tomorrow I will scrutinize everyground in the vicinity because I know what havoc a bad ground can cause! Thanks, for your input all help is greatly appreciated!
Problem solved. I had no voltage to the Fuse C. I crimped an eye fitting on a short jumper from the power lug and fed power to the fuse and the ciruits work fine and still are fuse ptotected as well Thanks for all of the help!!

The wire from the alternator to the PDC is power feed.
