Default Tranny Issues?

Here's the story lol I did a tune up (new spark plugs, wires, distributor, and rotor) on my truck. Next day go out to drive it and it's good until you let off the gas then it doesn't shift and when you go to pull out it takes off in second. Take it out of drive and put it back in it shifts until you let off the gas and it won't shift and pulls out in second. What could cause this? Fluid is good had some bubbles in the fluid. I am not a tranny man I can rebuild them (only did one when I was way younger) but I can't believe it would do that without any warning. Plus it worked fine one day the next it did this. No codes either.

When's the last time it had a fluid/filter change/band adjustment? If it's been a while, might start there. While you are in there, changing the governor stuff may not be a bad idea either. Go with the Borg Warner heavy duty solenoid set. They are available from various vendors on Ebay for around 100 bucks.

I agree with HeyYou, if it is taking off in second it sounds like it's in limp mode. Do you have O/D? Also if you know somebody that has a scanner have them hook up to it to check the governor pressure reading and see if it has any intermittent codes. Sometimes it won't throw the light if the symptom does not trigger 3 times in a row or if you have a couple good starts in between issues.

Also if you were doing work under the hood check this cable.

It wouldn't cause limp mode and normally affects higher gears/throttle but the shifting you are describing as far as letting off the gas sounds like an improper adjustment. You may have just bumped it or loosened it.

UPDATE: My truck is Christine. It fixed itself! Still plan on filter/fluid replacement.
