Question Tranny issues

I have a 99 ram 3500 5.9 auto 185k miles, not sure on the tranny model, and it started shifting rougher mainly first to second gear for the last few weeks maybe a month then last week it wouldnt shift out of first at all. I have done a bunch of research and seems to be the governor sensor... got it ordered and going to replace it when it gets here my main question is should i check or replace anything else while im in there?

Thanks for the help

Do the sensor and the solenoid. Adjust the bands as well. You'll be happier.

Welcome to DF!

You may already know but be sure to replace the filter and such while you are down there and of course check the magnet for any metal shavings and inspect the fluid. Most part stores carry a filter/gasket set for like $20-$30, id recommend an actual gasket and not the gasket makers/rtv/silicone.

Alright I finally got done with swapping out the sensors filter and gaskets, and replaced the 3/4th spring too...still won't shift out of first gear...the tranny fluid is a bit low I didn't bother filling it back up just let it warm up and drove around the block. Could being low in fluid still not let it shift out of first?

Did you adjust the bands?

Low fluid level could indeed give you shifting issues. Did you put any back in after buttoning it back up?

I did adjust the bands and no I didn't add any fluid back after putting it back together...i did just go drive around the block with the trans fuse pulled out and it seemed to be stuck in second also tried the relay swapped with the a.c. relay and that didn't make a difference still in either first or second with the fuse pulled.

With the trans fuse pulled, the trans won't shift at all. Also, being that low on fluid, that WILL give you issues.

Fuse in and fluid level right in the middle of the cross area on the dipstick took 3 quarts lol. Still wont shift out of first gear any other ideas before I send it to be rebuilt?
