i installed a mopar performance timing chain and a tensioner. The round ring on the Pass side of the tensioner broke off. What's it's purpose?

Well HeyYou if thats the case im golden. LOL it "broke" when i was tapping the cam gear on if its supposed to come out then i guess im okay. Just wanted to know what it was a how necessary it was. It doesn't seem like it has a purpose idk if the cover will even fit with it on there.

It's a pin to hold back the tensioner for purpose if installation. Pull it off once installed to apply tension. Aren't these for single roller type chains?Heard they don't do well with double rollers... Not sure if true, but I installed one with my double roller chain before I heard about it.

The tensioner works just fine on double roller timing chains. I've installed several of these over the years on small block MOPAR engines without any issues. Also, as mentioned, the ring is part of a pin that positions the tensioner prior to installation. Once the tensioner is installed, the pin is pulled and thrown away.

I seen one on a LA motor with ??? miles on it, It was worn down to the metal behind the black part that comes in contact with the chain. Metal to metal contact! I really would like to know how many miles these things really last. After i seen this i don't install them.

Thanks guys glad to know I didn't break it. As for tensioner not working for double roller chains I thought they worked fine but after reading more into it after I bought it I realized that you don't really need one and if I knew that I wouldn't of bought it. Hope all goes well tho.
