Default Electrical issues.

I just bought a 96 Ram 1500. The radio doesn't work. It is not getting a constant 12v. I have switched 12v. If I hook both constant and switched from the radio to the truck it works. Where does the 12v constant come from?

The air conditioning also doesn't work. I am not getting any power at terminal 3 of the relay. I can apply power directly to terminal 5 on the fuse box and the clutch kicks in and it works. Where does power to terminal 3 come from? What do the safety switches control? The relay coil? Or the clutch power?

Do your dome lights work? (do they come on when you open the door?)

Terminal 3? Would that be pin 30??

Dome lights do not work but the door switch is broken. Don't work off the headlight switch though. The relay has terminals 1,2,3,4,5. That's it. But 1 and 2 are for the switch to the relay. Number 4 is normally closed. 5 normally open and 3 being power in.

Wonder if that bad switch popped the IOD fuse..... It's in the fuse block on the side of the dash, cleverly concealed under a neat little cover. Check it out.

Relay gets it's main power feed from fuse B (20A) in the PDC. The control circuit gets power from fuse 9 in the fuse block on the side of the dash.

No. Washer pump is powered thru fuse 8.

Do you get power to the pump when the switch is pressed?

I haven't gotten around to testing it yet. I think a previous owner has done some hack job wiring on it. The wipers and turn signals work when the key is in the off position. Just gotta try to figure out all they have done.

If you don't have one yet, grab the service manual from here.... Wiring diagrams will make your life MUCH easier......

Both fuses were blown. Fixed AC and radio. Wipers work but no pump.
