Default 5.9 ping

I know there are tons of forms online for this pinging sound. I have 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 2wd. Iv has the truck for 2 years and always had this ping going up hills at around 2K plus rpms. I looked online and most everything said the intake gasket and the plenum gasket. I checked it out it was way shot. Did that fix it. And now since this truck is my daily driver. It’s very annoying. So I checked out the plenum inside the throttle body. Not blown. I changed the PCV to a mopar. I did a full tune up. Spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. And still not gone? People been saying use high octane fuel but here in Southern California anything that’s not 87 gas is over $4.00 at the momment. So I can’t afford that at the momment. People say use sea foam but the truck has 194*** miles on it and I don’t want to un clog something and it messes up the motor. The truck runs like a champ smooth as butter idle. Tons of power. No exhaust leaks. Can someone help with this?

every form I read. They always seems to haven’t change the plenum gasket or they run high octane fuel, they never respond on what fixed the problem.

like I said truck idle smooths, runs strong. Plenum gasket change and still is good. PCV is a new mopar one. No exhaust leaks.

Maybe sea sea foam or high octane fuel?

thank guys

Unplug the front O2 sensor(s?), and drive it for a few days. See if the problem doesn't disappear.

I forgot to mention that o2 sensor is brand new. I replaced it while I replace the plenum gasket. I might try that this weekend

What brand O2 sensor?

Might wanna feed it some seafoam thru the brake booster line, just to attempt to de-carbon the combustion chambers. Carbon buildup in there can cause pre-ignition. (ping.)

NGK from rock auto. I also forgot to mention I rebuilt my injectors and o-rings. How much goes in the brake booster ? Should I put some in the gas tank? And can’t it mess it up?

the death flash got rid of our pinging...but that was within 5 years of buying it new and less than 50k miles..... i don't know if that is your issue or if it even applies to your year model.... the pinging was impressive, specially uphill

well, the sensor is right at least..... When I did my truck, I just stock the brake booster hose into the bottle, but, not into the fluid..... just let it suck it up as a mist. had to have my son hold the engine at 1200 rpm, else it would stall...... reduced my pinging quite a bit. I didn't put any in the tank.....

how is much do you put into the brake booster hose? Only haft a 1/4 or the whole thing? And did you let your truck sit for like 20 mins after and then started it back up?

I let it take about 3/4 of the bottle, then just stuffed the hose in, so the engine stalled. let it sit for a while, started it back up, and ran it at 1000RPM till the smoke cleared. (and there was a LOT of it..... glad I was out in the boonies. ) Don't feed the engine too much at a time though, it is possible to hydro-lock the motor, and that is just a bad scene.
