What are EVAP canisters?
I installed a K&N CAI about two months ago and I'm having problems with my ce light coming on. The code is relating to the evap canisters which had to be rearranged for the cai. What exactly are EVAP canisters? What is there job? I reset my pcm and the light hasn't come on yet, but if it does what should I do? thanks -Tyler
on my 4x4 they are back on the frame rail next to the tranny on the outside of the frame. check your vacuum lines around your CAI install and make sure you didnt crack a vacuum nipple on any of the parts over there...
on my 2wd I think that they are located up front next to the airfilter. I've done checked all my lines, but I guess I could check again. What excatly are EVAP canisters?
I think they'd be too big for being up by the air filter... have a look on the passengerside frame near the tranny. they are about as big as a 2 liter bottle of soda but not as tall...
Here, I have a picture of them. When I checked the code at the dealership they pointed to these.
What should I do? Unplug them and reset the pcm?

I had to put that different bracket in when I put in the CAI and since I disturbed them they keep tripping the ce light. I've reset my pcm twice now and they keep coming on after a while. I reset it a third time recently and is hasn't come on yet, but It probably won't be long before if does. I'm kinda halfway trying to sell my truck and I don't need that light to be on if someone wants to look at it.

"All gas powered engines use a duty cycle purge system. the pcm controls vapor flow by operating th eduty cycle EVAP purge solenoid. when equipped with certain emissions packages, a Leak Detection Pump will be used as part of the evap system."
what i'd do is check the purge solenoid and make sure it's operating ok, then look for a vacuum leak on any of the lines associated with the evap system. you should use a vacuum pump on all of the lines and make sure they are holding vacuum and not bleeding down. here's a pic out of the book...

you will need to save it to your pc, then enlarge it to read it ok...
