Default Front Shock Recommendations

Hi All,

I need to replace the front shocks on my 1998 1500 4x4. I have wider and slightly taller tires than stock. After trying to search the internet and forums I am still not sure on which ones to get. Truck is mostly used on the road but I would like a heavier duty higher quality shock and do not mind paying more for it.

Any recommendations on a replacement? RockAuto has a rebate on Monroe, but if there is a better brand anyone has had luck with I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Patrick

Think there is a poll in the faq section on shocks. The billstein 5100's seem pretty popular.

I've been very happy with my Ranchos. Perform similar to the stock off road edition shocks.

Pretty expensive also. I put Rancho RS5000's on my truck when i first got it(15+ years ago) and i was pleased with them. Well when it was time to get new ones i looked at the billstein's and got conflicting stories about them. I could get the Rancho's at a discount so that's what i went for the second time.

My brother had rancho's on his S-10...... and they just didn't last long. I think he got maybe two years out of them, before it was time for replacement.... so, I haven't used their products for quite a while. (granted, this was 20 plus years ago.)
