Default Trouble shooting

Ok I'm new don't know how to do a correct forum but anyway here's my problem. I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2l 4x4. I was driving down the road and noticed almost complete power loss barely hear the motor,, I pulled in shut it off immediatly due to a knocking sound. I checked the oil dip was completely empty. I got a friend take me filled it full of oil started it checked for leaks nothing dripping,, when I got on the highway 30mph was fast as it would go, had a whining sound to it. Crawled it home and haven't drove it since. It cranks up starts something is knocking and allot of air sound near the driver side.. I just put a stage 2 transmission in it so the tranny is fine,, I fear a major problem and would like to know what y'all think. Btw last year I bought the motor to it only had a 90day warranty. Thank y'all for the time

Time for a new engine. You should check the oil and top off periodically, if you don't want to keep buying em.

Probably blown plenum, which ate all your oil, and smoked your motor. I agree with dodgevity, time for a new motor.

OK so update I had a mechanic come look at it. He pulled the plugs checked the compression and determined the internals were fine. He said the most like reason it won't start now or run is it's dumping to much fuel,, do y'all think this is plausible? We checked the exhaust and the motor and can't figure out where all the oil went. Everything is dry. What is faulty that makes the truck dump to much fuel causing it to flood and not run? Any ideas would be appreciated. He's coming back today and I'm pulling the rest the plugs and going to check the compression and so on... Thank you for any insight

Coolant temp sensor the PCM uses. If the sensor is telling the PCM it's -40* outside, the PCM will absolutely DUMP fuel in, trying to get a mixture that will burn. This will flood the engine right quick. (unless it really IS that cold out.....)

Or, if you have one or more injectors that are faulty, or, shorts in the wiring to the injectors..... or, problems with the control circuits within the PCM itself. Although, most of those *should* set codes.

Ok thank you in going to see if he can bring a code reader,,, it cranks up most of the time, when it start in idle now it's really rough and dies,, when I first put the tranny in I could drive it around the block once,, I noticed it was still not running right it wouldn't go above 30mph still and had a whine in it with allot of air sound,, which the air sound was when it idles as well.. He told me last night that was all the fuel dumping in and flooding it,,

Ah ha. That changes the whole deal. Did you remove the crank sensor while removing/installing the trans? If not, it would be a real good idea to have a look at it, they are frequently victims of that exercise..... If it got damaged, get one from the dealer, these trucks don't like the aftermarket crank sensors.
