yeah, same here, i did not use silicone at all. and even the cheap part from autozone worked fine. do not force the thing in there cause once you mess up the o-ring you have to start over.
you said you cant get the tab to twist over to where it goes to the bolt hole, then you probably have the wrong tube. I've personally never had to put any sealant on those things either. just wiped an oily finger over the o-ring and was good to go. also might clean up the inside of the hole good if there is crusted antifreeze down in it (i'm assuming it was leaking and that's why you changed it)
I'll look at the box for the part number and see, but it's identical to my old one, and the tab would not go for anything. My old one also had the tab bent pen wider to grab onto the bolt. I tried bending the bottom of the tab to go on the bolt but no luck. I wouldn't have had to put sealant on it, but like I said before when I took the bolt out; I put way too much pressure on the tube and cut the O-ring right in half (definitely my fault). Yes I will probably have to clean the hole out next time I do it because it is still leaking...

You're right, but because I couldn't get the tube in with the bolt in, and after taking the bolt out I put the same force on the tube and crushed the O-ring. Yes I will have to get a new one and do start over.
